Bristol, Rhode Island, June 2010:
Carbon Ocean Yachts is please to report the following progress of Carbon 82 hull #01
Deck to Hull Fitting
The major milestone of final fitting the deck to the hull will commence on Monday 6 June with the set up of the deck for transportation to the South building bay. Dry fitting and any minor fitting details will take place immediately. Following the dry fitting a custom mix of Gougeon epoxy will be applied to the deck flanges and the deck will be final fit.
Carbon Ocean Yachts worked closely with Gougeon Brothers to develop this epoxy system so as to ensure a workable epoxy with a long out time and very high strength properties. The final phase of the deck to hull fitting – secondary sheer carbon taping will be completed by the third week of June.
Hull Fit Out
The installation and the plumbing of the water, fuel and waste tanks are completed. This work includes all manifolds, vent hoses, cross over valves, deck pump outs, deck fills and inspection ports. The final hook up of deck fittings and pressure testing will take place next month.
Mechanical and hydraulic systems which include the installing of the main engine, generator, hydraulic pump and major feed and supply piping has been completed. Final hook up to winches and other hydraulic functions will commence late June.
James Thompson Marine Carpentry has a crew of two on site to install the joiner work. To date all the major components have been installed in the owner’s suite, guest cabins one and two and the crew cabin. Joiner work installation in the main salon will commence on 7 June.
Cay Electronics, who are contracted for electrical supply and distribution, refrigeration and air conditioning requirements, have completed all the preliminary running of wiring for all systems. Installation of specific components will commence mid June and will be completed mid August.
Deck Fit Out and Cosmetics
The deck crew led by Mike Danks (construction) and Peter Conary (painting) has made great progress during the past few months with the deck now ready for fitting to the hull.
Deck hardware including hatches, swim platform, lazarette doors, companionway hatch, cabin top glass and all sail handling hardware have been dry fitted, located and removed awaiting final bolt down. Final fitting of all deck components will commence in early August.
The fairing of the teak decking rebates, cabin house, both inboard and outboard, along with the cockpit seat tops is 90% completed and as such close to final application of primers.
The deck hatch cut-outs, cabin top glass rebates, windlass locker, under-coaming areas and lazarette areas are fully faired and final primer has been applied. Application of the final paint is underway in selected areas.
